Community

Trinity Lutheran Church supports a number of local charities and organizations that serve various needs in the community and world. In fact, Pastor maintains a list of Cortez Support Organizations (updated 14 Aug 2024) that can be easily shared with those in need. Feel free to download and share it with whomever you think might find it useful.

In addition, there are several groups at Trinity that serve the needs of others.

The Board of Missions and Social Concerns has adopted Trinity Lutheran Preschool as one of the on-going projects on their list.  Assistance with fundraising, preschool programs and meals, and maintenance tasks are all part of keeping the preschool in top shape to minister to these young people and their families. The Board of Social Concerns holds food, necessity and clothing drives several times a year for Good Samaritan Center.  They pick up out of date food from a local grocery store and deliver it to Good Samaritan.  The congregation also collects personal products in hotel sizes for Renew,  a crisis response agency for domestic and and sexual violence, and their shelter.

Once a year Trinity raises funds for a local pregnancy and counseling agency, Heart to Heart.

The Sew 'n' Sews, a quilting group, makes tied, single bed size quilts for Orphan Grain Train, a Christian volunteer network that shares personal and material resources with needy people in the United States and around the world. The SnSs organize a yearly auction to raise funds for OGT and the SnS supply closet. Much of what they use is donated, but they need basic supplies like batting and thread.  They take the summer off, but will start up again September at 9:00 a.m.  on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.
